The Rules

 

Scoreboard

 

  1. All players must sign a waiver at the tournament site before they may play.

  2. Players are encouraged to wear gloves, elbow pads, shin pads and helmets.  Goalies are permitted to wear regular hockey equipment.

  3. Teams will consist of a maximum of 7 registered players.  Four players (including the goalie) are allowed on the playing surface during play.

  4. Teams are guaranteed 3 games.

  5. All games are 20 minutes, running time.  A face-off at center starts the game.  There are no other stoppages in play unless due to an injury.  All player substitutions are made on the fly.

  6. Each playing surface will have a referee who has full authority on governing the game.  Only the designated captain of each team may approach the referee on a ruling.  Time will not stop during this process and the referee may call a delay of game.  Disputes about time will be resolved by the Referee and his/her decision will be final.

  7. Home end of the playing surface will be decided by a coin toss prior to the start of each game.  Teams will defend their home end for the entire game.

  8. There is no grace period for the start of games.  If a team is late for the start of the game, they forfeit the game.

  9. The game timekeeper will record the actual start and finish of each game and will also be responsible for keeping track of the number of goals and infractions each team has per game. 

  10. Minor infractions/penalties include the following: shoving/pushing; tripping; slashing; elbowing etc.  Slap shots are allowed.

  11. Major infractions/penalties will be called for: verbal abuse to officials, spectators or opponents; fighting; intentional slashing; intentional body checking.

  12. Minor infractions/penalties during the game result in the non-offending team being awarded a penalty shot at the end of the game.  Major penalties result in the offending player's ejection from the game and the non-offending team being awarded 3 penalty shots at the end of the game.

  13. Fighting is not tolerated and results in automatic ejection of the team from the tournament. 

  14. Verbal abuse toward the referee will result in immediate ejection of the player from the game.  A second incidence of verbal abuse will result in the ejection of the player from the tournament and ineligibility for any prizes.

  15. Icing and offside will not be called.

  16. If the ball goes out of bounds, possession of the ball is given to the non-offending team at the point of the ball's exit.

  17. When a goal is scored, the team scored upon is given center until all the players of the offensive team have cleared the centerline.

  18. If a preliminary game is tied after regulation (and any ensuing penalty shots) the tie will stand. (One point will be awarded to each team).  If a final game is tied after the regulation (and ensuing penalty shots) the games will be decided by a shoot-out, after a 5 minute sudden death overtime.

  19. If teams are tied after the round robin, the team to advance will be decided by the team with: (A) the least goals against; (B) the least infractions; (C) the winning team in the head to head match. 

  20. The tournament officials reserve the right to eject anyone - player or spectator- for any questionable conduct. 

  21. This is a FUN event and it is the goal of the organizers to provide an enjoyable and safe environment for players to enjoy the great game of road hockey - rain, shine or humidity!
